Lake Travis High School will send 16 students to Atlanta to participate in the 68th annual International Career Development Conference May 2–7. In February the students competed with about 5,000 other high school students for a spot on the Texas DECA team in Dallas.
Formally known as the Distributive Education Clubs of America, DECA prepares students in marketing, finance, hospitality and management with more than 185,000 members throughout the world.
Led by marketing teachers Jill Oates and Susan Matheson, Lake Travis High School's DECA club is one of the largest student organizations on the campus with 125 members.
"Each year, our DECA students consistently attain impressive results at all levels of competition," LTHS principal Kim Brents said in a news release. "We thank Ms. Oates and Ms. Matheson for preparing these students for the international spotlight, and ultimately, the highly-competitive global workforce of the 21st century."
More than 15,000 students from throughout the world are expected to attend the international conference. For more information about the international career development conference, visit www.deca.org/ecents/icdc.
