Commissioners approved at their March 18 meeting a contract with the Texas Department of Transportation for extra duty employment in Precinct 1 for full-time deputies along SH 130 and SH 45 to enforce the toll road habitual violator program.
Drivers identified as having more than 100 toll violations in the past year will be written a citation. If they are pulled over again and are still in violation, they will receive a citation and have their vehicle impounded.
"A single violation is one camera shot," Commissioner Ron Morrison said. "You can get more than one violation in a day."
If the crackdown is successful, constables may move the efforts into precincts 3 and 4. Precinct 1 includes part of Northwest Austin, namely east of US 183 and north of McNeil Drive, as well as part of Round Rock.
