The Pflugerville ISD board of trustees have selected a name and leader for the district's newest elementary school.

On Feb. 20 the board appointed Christy Chandler principal of PISD's 20th elementary school—which is scheduled to open in August and will serve the northeast portion of the district. Chandler currently serves as principal of Timmerman Elementary School and has been an employee of the district since 2002.

"I am honored by the faith put in me by both the board and our district leadership," Chandler said. "Opening a new campus is a tremendous honor for any principal. I have been pleased to be part of the Timmerman community for 12 years, and I look forward to the challenge of developing that type of family atmosphere in my new position."

The board also voted unanimously to name the new school Audrey and Leonard Dearing Elementary School. The Dearings have been members of Pflugerville ISD community for more than 50 years. Leonard is a past board member and president, and Audrey is a recipient of the Greater Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce's Citizen of the Year award. The Leonards were also instrumental in the creation of a new Pflugerville Community Library in 1999.
