The Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce has named Chris O'Rourke, owner of Magnolia's Outback Western Wear, as its 2014 chairman.
"Chris owns a very successful business," chamber President Bruce Hillegeist said. "He will bring his management skills and vision and proactive energetic self to the chamber in his new leadership role."
O'Rourke's position as chairman includes running board meetings and representing the chamber at various community events, Hillegeist said. It is a volunteer position.
"The chamber has 750 business members; it's run by the members," Hillegeist said. "Board members are chosen by a nominating committee. They've got successful businesses such as Chris' and we need their brain power to run this as a successful business as well."
The board's main job is policy making and ensuring the chamber is financially sound, Hillegeist said.
"The board develops a program of work, which is our road map for what we feel needs to be done in the Tomball area to promote business and quality of life," Hillegeist said.
