Colleyville owners branch out into spa manufacturing

After Pete O'Brien retired from professional baseball in 1993, he found a new passion in leading others to new pathways of good health and less stress.

That journey introduced him to floatation therapy, a form of hydrotherapy that combines dense saltwater with 95-degree heat to achieve a zero-gravity experience.

"Research shows that people are in their most relaxed state when they are floating in a zero-gravity environment," said the former Texas Rangers first baseman and Colleyville resident.

O'Brien and his wife, Donna, were instantly hooked when they tried a float spa in Philadelphia.

A few months later, they opened At Peace Floatation & Massage.

Nearly seven years later, the Colleyville spa's success has spawned a new venture: At Peace Floatation Spa Manufacturing.

"We see the potential for clients who come and experience flotation here to want to have one of their own," O'Brien said. "We are working with contractors and homebuilders to get them into people's homes."

After an 11-year career in professional baseball—in Cleveland and Seattle as well as for the Rangers—O'Brien said he appreciates the benefits of floating in 800 pounds of Epsom saltwater to relieve pain and treat injuries.

"I sure wish this was around when I was playing," he said.

O'Brien calls the spa's combination of flotation and massage "a perfect match'' for ultimate relaxation.

The price for floatation therapy starts at $70 for a 50-minute session.
