Construction is set to start in late spring on East Whitestone Boulevard between Parmer Lane and Sam Bass Road.
As the largest transportation project in the city of Cedar Park's history, crews will widen 2 miles of road from five lanes to six lanes. The point where Parmer Lane and Whitestone Boulevard meet will also be converted into a continuous-flow intersection in an effort to ease traffic congestion.
Drivers should see work begin in late May or June with completion expected in 15–18 months, said Jennie Huerta, Cedar Park media and communications manager.
The city of Cedar Park expects to spend $23 million for the widening project, for which TxDOT will reimburse up to $13.6 million, city staff said. The intersection upgrade is funded through an interlocal agreement between Cedar Park and Williamson County.
Construction was set to begin in December, but approval of the project's mandated environmental assessment was delayed, Huerta said.
