Following an independent audit report and various reviews, Spring ISD Superintendent Rodney Watson announced Dec. 10 organizational changes for the 2015 school year, including the restructuring of leadership at several schools throughout the 37-campus district.

According to a press release from the district's department of communications, the announcement comes as Spring ISD is preparing to institute a new five-year strategic plan in 2015 designed to address a number of issues within the district.

These proposed improvements include a focus on training and workforce development, low-performing schools, information technology deficiencies and overall district safety in the wake of several public forums held with staff, residents and administrators designed to elicit feedback during the past two months.

The audit was conducted by the nonprofit organization Battelle for Kids, an Ohio based group that focuses on improving schools through assessments in curriculum, instruction and communications.

In addition to bolstering the human resources department, the district is developing a new approach to academics and student support services. A national search for an executive director of human resources in underway, and the successful candidate will report to the district's chief human resources officer.

Other changes include the restructuring of the office of school leadership and a number of changes in leaderships at various district schools for the upcoming school year.

Beginning in 2015, Carla Jones-Taylor will serve as the principal of Bammel Elementary School. David Baxter will bring more than 15 years of experience in school-level leadership and administration as the new principal of Claughton Middle School.

Pam Farinas, the former principal of Houston ISD's North Forest High School, will now serve as principal of Dekaney High School. In addition, Grace Leal will serve as principal of Lewis Elementary School, bringing more than 22 years of experience as an educator to the campus.
