Residents in the Willowbrook area now have one more reason to not drive downtown for a night out. James Cole, manager at Revolver, a new gastropub in the Willowbrook area off Hwy. 249, says he wants to bring Midtown to the suburbs.

Cole bills the venue's atmosphere as "sub-bourbon social"—a focus on high-end bourbons with the main market being the suburban residents of northwest Harris County.

"We felt there was a need for this type of establishment in the area," he said. "People don't want to drive 30 miles downtown to hang out at a nice place."

Cole described the environment as both relaxed and sophisticated, a mix of a few different concepts. It is a gastropub with a menu more extensive than the average bar, but also has elements of a lounge, patio bar and a high energy nightlife hangout on the weekend. He said making the bar more inviting to women is a goal, given the particular lack of nightlife options marketed to them in the area.

Revolver's bourbons and whiskeys are the calling card of its drink menu, with choices ranging from Wild Turkey and Jim Beam to Jameson Gold and Angel's Envy. The pub also offers scotch, beer, wine and craft cocktails, such as the house Bloody Mary—Jack Daniels, worstershire, olive juice, salt, pepper, sriracha, lemon, lime, zing zang, garnished with chicken fried bacon and an olive.

The food menu features appetizers—including fried pickle spears and bacon blue cheese truffle fries—as well as salads, flatbreads, tacos and burgers. Chicken fried steaks are made from scratch and sold for $8 on Wednesdays. Food can also be ordered to go and everything is homemade, down to the gravy.

"Most of it is basic stuff, but we put a twist on everything we do to make it a little more high-end and unique," Cole said.

Cole said he is preparing for a few upgrades for 2014. An 80-inch flatscreen TV will be installed on the patio in time for the Super Bowl. He also said he is looking to extend the hours to Sundays starting in the spring.
