An $11 million contract recently awarded by The Texas Transportation Commission tasks ISI Contracting, Inc. with performing routine maintenance of 100 miles of Central Texas roads.

Texas Department of Transportation Information Specialist Mark Cross said the two-year contract is the first in a series of contracts that TxDOT intends to award for maintenance such as striping, guardrail upkeep and landscaping of I-35 and SH 45 between Dallas and Houston, and Dallas and San Antonio.

"It was just approved at the end of December at the December transportation meeting," he said.

ISI will provide routine maintenance for:

  • MoPac from Lady Bird Lake south to William Cannon Drive
  • I-35 from the Bell County/Williamson County line to the Hays County/Comal County line
  • Hwy. 183 from Loop 360 east to Cameron Road
  • Hwy. 290 and Hwy. 71 for 100.9 miles from Joe Tanner Lane to Montopolis Drive

It will also offer snow and ice control services within the geographic area as well as MoPac from Lady Bird Lake north to Parmer Lane (FM 734). The contracts will also affect I-10 between San Antonio and Houston and are expected to save taxpayers $96 million in the next five years, according to TxDOT.

TxDOT Executive Director Phil Wilson said in a news release that the contracts will save money and result in a more comprehensive approach to routine road maintenance.

"We must continue being creative and innovative to increase the efficiency of operations and give the public the best value for their tax dollars," he said.
