A week after trustee Shaun Bosar resigned his post because of a move away from the district, the Hays CISD board voted to fill the unoccupied seat in a meeting Dec. 16.

Applications are now being solicited for the vacant position.

With Bosar's term set to expire in May, when he would have been up for re-election, the board had the option of either filling the slot, leaving it vacant until the May election or holding a special election.

But holding a special election would exact a hit on the district's budget, officials have said.

Beginning on Jan. 2 and ending on Jan. 14 at 4 p.m., interested citizens who live in the single-member District 1 can apply to the board of trustees. In addition to the application, those wishing to throw their hat into the ring must submit a 500-word statement of interest.

Board workshops will be conducted on Jan. 21 and 27 to vet the applicant pool and then on Feb. 3, at a special called meeting, the board will consider tabbing a replacement, according to a Hays CISD news release.
