The Round Rock ISD Partners in Education Foundation hosts its annual Jingle Bell Run on Dec. 14 at McNeil High School's track.
The run benefits the Susan C. Brown Memorial Scholarship, which provides scholarships to female athletes who exemplify excellence in athletics, academics and leadership.
Brown served as the assistant superintendent of human resources for Round Rock ISD and died of complications because of cancer in November 2011.
Assistant Athletic Director Susan Nix said last year the run raised about $700–$800 for the scholarship foundation. This year, she said she hopes to raise more than $1,000.
Nix said her favorite aspect of the race is having students participate to carry on Brown's legacy of leadership, dedication and volunteering.
"It gives the students an opportunity to get community service hours or just to be a part of it," Nix said.
The event starts at 8:30 a.m. with a 1-mile fun run for participants age 15 and older. The event will be divided into races based on age and gender.
Participants may fill out the registration form before the event or on race day Dec. 14 between 7:30–8:20 a.m. The cost to participate is $5 per person or $20 for a family.
Nix said if the weather remains cold, the race will still be held.
