North Texas woke up today to a blanket of solid ice that by 8 a.m. had slowed the morning commute to a crawl or stopped it entirely on most major roads.

Even before 7 a.m., multiple accidents reported across the Metroplex on icy highways.

Oncor's website showed some 200,000 customers without power in the Dallas area, with no restoration time listed, the Grapevine area still had power, and failures in the Frisco area were minimal.

CoServ Electric reported a disruption to about 524 members in the Frisco/Little Elm area. The area included Corbell Elementary School, Eldorado Estates East, Eldorado Fairways at The Trails, The Fairways and The Trails.

Another pocket of about 30 people without power was reported farther north, in Prosper.

Some 300 flights were cancelled at DFW International Airport.

The city of Grapevine is closed except for essential services.

Both Grapevine-Colleyville and Carroll ISD schools are closed, as is the Frisco ISD.

Frisco Municipal Court jury trials are canceled, although the court will operate normal hours today.

Stonebriar Centre officials reported the mall will not be opened until noon today , although individual stores may have a different policy.

No thawing is expected anytime soon.

The National Weather Service says freezing rain and sleet are likely to continue for several more hours, with a high temperature of 28 degrees. The north wind is blowing at 15 mph.

The low tonight is expected to be 18 degrees.

Saturday's forecast calls for a chance of freezing rain in the afternoon with a high around 27 degrees, with more chance of freezing rain and sleet that night.

Some relief from freezing temperatures is expected Sunday, with a high of 34 and a low of about 23 degrees.
