Hutto Police Chief Peter Scheets resigned from the Hutto Police Department on Oct. 3 citing personal issues.
Scheets' resignation is officially effective Oct. 28, but he chose to use accrued time off starting Oct. 4. Under his leadership, HPD founded its first citizens' police academy and student police academy. Scheets joined the department in January 2012.
The city plans to appoint an interim chief while it selects a search firm to help fill the position.
"We wish Peter much success in his future endeavors and are grateful for his service to this community and the city of Hutto," Hutto City Manager David Mitchell said. "The City of Hutto is committed to serving our community passionately, and we will do everything possible to ensure that Scheets' replacement is the right fit for our staff and community."
