Sunset Valley City Council approved the city's 2013–14 budget at its Sept. 17 meeting.
The general fund is the main funding source for the city's activities. In 2013–14, Sunset Valley expects to take in $4.6 million in revenue and spend $3.6 million.
Combined with last year's surplus, the city has roughly $1.2 million in available funds.
The budget includes a 4 percent increase to water and wastewater rates based on projected city of Austin increases, according to Sunset Valley documents.
At the meeting, the council approved spending $15,000 for a study to examine the city's water rate structure. To fund the rate study, the council voted to raise the residential base monthly charge by $5 from $8.40 to $13.40.
