The next Watch Talk Wednesday, a program put on by The Woodlands Township that focuses on crime prevention and awareness, will focus on understanding synthetic drugs.
Conroe ISD police Sgt. Julie Wright's presentation will address synthetic marijuana and the consequences of using it on Sept. 25 from noon to 1 p.m. The meeting is at The Woodlands Township Town Hall, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd.
"People sometimes forget the effects that using these drugs can have," said Marian Leck, township director of law enforcement. "People have essentially either died, have been incapacitated and have suffered loss of brain functions."
Leck said synthetic drugs are typically made by adding plant material to common household items such as potpourri or green tea. According to the National Institute on Drug Awareness, synthetic marijuana goes by the street names K2, moonrocks, spice, skunk, Yucatan Fire and fake weed.
Leck said Wright, a former Conroe ISD police detective, will discuss how parents can detect symptoms and behavior associated with synthetic drug usage.
