City Council is considering a budget for fiscal year 2013–14 that could total about $3.3 billion.

"It carefully, we believe, balances the needs of today's residents with the core values of sustainability and affordability for all Austinites," Austin City Manager Marc Ott said at a budget work session Aug. 1. The previous year's adopted budget totaled about $3.1 billion.

The recommended property tax rate for the new budget is 51.14 cents per $100 of taxable value, an increase of 0.85 cents on last year's rate. The actual increase is about $4.17 more per month on a median-valued home.

The city will approve its budget and tax rate Sept. 9–11.
