This weekend, shoppers can help Austin ISD students by donating school supplies for the inaugural Stuff the Bus event in Sunset Valley.
AISD, Austin Board of Realtors and radio stations KASE and KVET have teamed up to fill two buses with back-to-school gear.
The event takes place Aug. 10 from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. and Aug. 11 from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. at 5601 Brodie Lane in Sunset Valley. The event coincides with the state's sales tax holiday, a time when many families purchase school supplies.
KVET Marketing Director Gary Walsh said AISD officials have asked for help supplying the district's students in need.
"What we need is everything from pencils and pens to shoes and clothes," he said. "Since it takes place during tax-free weekend, you're already out buying supplies for your own children."
Sarah Wilson, Sunset Valley assistant city administrator, said Sunset Valley businesses have gotten involved and are offering discounts and prizes to event participants.
The supplies will be distributed at AISD's Back to School Bash on Aug. 24, AISD spokesman Antonio Lujan said.
