In preparation for the upcoming fall semester, the YMCA has plans to open its full-service Children's Academy at Lone Star College–University Park July 22. The facility will serve the students, faculty and staff associated with the campus along with employees from Noble Energy and other University Park partners.
"Our partnership with the YMCA is a magnificent win-win-win case for our students, our organizations and our community," said LSC–UP president Shah Ardalan. "I am extremely pleased to have a partner like Noble Energy to invest in this initiative and having YMCA to operate it with the highest educational standards."
As a community leader in child development, the YMCA has several programs and facilities to assist its mission. The Children's Academy will be different from more traditional daycares in that it will provide basic child care services coupled with creative curriculum aimed at assisting children with literacy, mathematics, art, technology and character development to name a few. Enrichment programs in dance, music and language will also be offered.
"Children will learn through discovery and play in a nature based environment," said Farralyn Brantner, YMCA youth development team leader. "We will teach the Creative Curriculum which is based on research and focuses on the key areas of the learning environment, content, child development and how children learn, as well as the role of the teacher and the family in the learning process."
The academy will offer child care services for several age groups, such as a full-day infant care and prekindergarten program for ages 6 weeks–5 years that is open to the community as well as drop in child care for Lone Star College-University Park students and staff for children ages 3-12 years.
"Like everything else at LSC-University Park, this is not your average daycare but a true learning academy with advanced programs based on proven research," Ardalan said.
After arriving, children will be able to participate in group activities, small group discussions and outdoor time and will be served lunch along with two snacks throughout the day.
