The Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees approved the district's 2013-14 budget in the amount of $776.7 million during a special-called meeting June 27.
The district expects $776,682,534 in revenue for 2013-14 and $776,682,534 in expenditures, meeting the goal of a balanced budget.
The new budget provides for classroom and campus personnel additions, salary increases for all employees, a starting teacher salary of $48,000, secondary school late buses and the opening of Pope Elementary.
Trustees adopted the budget in late June due to the uncertainty of school funding until the end of this year's legislative session. CFISD will receive an additional $37,618,332—or 10.9 percent—for the 2013-14 academic year due to the passage of Senate Bill 1. The district is expected to receive an additional $52,589,762—or 15 percent—in funds for the 2014-15 school year.
The board also approved the continuation of the optional residence homestead exemptions for district residents for the 2013 tax year. The exemption provides homeowners with a 20 percent reduction in property taxes.
