The Texas Department of Transportation announced the extended closure of N.E. Inner Loop from Austin Avenue to Sudduth Drive as the Lakeway Drive bridge is replaced.
The quarter-mile stretch of road will be closed from June 6 until the bridge is complete, which is projected for sometime in October, a news release stated.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Old Airport Road/CR 151, the release stated. Signs have been placed to alert drivers of the detour since last week, TxDOT spokeswoman Kelli Reyna said.
The new Lakeway Drive bridge will be six lanes wide with two travel lanes and one dedicated left-turn lane in each direction to help accommodate traffic growth in the area, Reyna said.
The detour should not add more than about five minutes to travel routes during non-peak hours, she said. Drivers should allow extra time to travel through the area and remain aware when traveling through the work zone, the release stated.
"Slow down in work zones, pay attention and plan ahead," Reyna said.
