A new Gander Mountain retail location is in the works for Round Rock.
The outdoor sports and lifestyle retailer was issued building permits May 15 to begin the remodeling of an existing 50,882-square-foot retail location at 3203 S. I-35 in the Round Rock Crossing shopping center. Gander Mountain will take over the building formerly occupied by Sportsman's Warehouse, which closed in May 2009.
According to the permit application, Gander Mountain plans to spend $1.5 million on an "interior remodel of [an] existing retail store into a new Gander Mountain."
"[Gander Mountain] needs to do a demolition of the inside of the building and rebuild the inside before they open their store," said Brad Wiseman, Round Rock Planning and Development Services director.
Gander Mountain company representatives declined to comment as to when the new Round Rock location might open.
According to the company's website, Gander Mountain operates "the nation's largest retail network of stores for hunting, fishing, camping, and marine products and accessories."
The company operates 119 locations in 24 states, including 11 stores in Texas.
