Georgetown City Council held a special meeting May 21 to canvass May 11 election results, swear in new council members and select a mayor pro tem.

District 3 Councilman John Hesser and District 4 Councilman Steve Fought were elected in uncontested races, and District 7 Councilman Tommy Gonzalez was re-elected with 58.4 percent of the vote.

The council also honored outgoing council members Danny Meigs and Bill Sattler.

After swearing in the three council members, City Council elected Gonzalez to serve as mayor pro tem in a 4-3 vote.

"Thank you for the honor to serve as mayor pro tem," Gonzalez said. "Thank you to council, I appreciate the opportunity to serve. You always wonder, 'Do you really want this?' So I'll let you know after the end of year."
