Leander ISD school buses will no longer pick up some students along routes near Henry Middle School and Vista Ridge High School after the board of trustees on April 18 deemed the routes non-hazardous.
Bus service for middle and high school students to areas of Whippoorwill Acres, Breakaway Park and The Reserve at Brushy Creek will end this fall, said Ellen Skoviera, LISD director of business and operations during April 4 discussions. Elementary students may still ride a bus, she said.
LISD does not provide transportation for students living within a 2-mile radius of their school unless walking paths to that campus are deemed hazardous. The district's transportation staff reviews the list of hazardous routes each year to determine if bus service is needed.
At its regular meeting, the board approved continuing service to 16 routes already deemed unsafe for student foot traffic, based on staff recommendations.
