The Transportation Policy Board of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization voted April 8 to add 17 Hays County roads and proposed roads to its list of projects under consideration for future funding.

An amendment of the CAMPO 2035 Regional Transportation Plan to include the Hays County projects allows the county to preserve a swath of more than 120 feet in width of right of way for expansion of the roads, according to information provided by CAMPO. Hays County officials had identified the projects when developing a transportation master plan, which the Commissioners Court approved Jan. 22.

"The county worked for a long time on this plan and received a tremendous amount of support from our citizens and municipal jurisdictions," said Will Conley, the CAMPO board chairman and Hays County Precinct 3 commissioner, on April 9.

The list includes improvements to FM 967 in the Buda area, the proposed San Marcos and Kyle loops and a major east-west thoroughfare connecting I-35 in Kyle with Dripping Springs.

The CAMPO board adopted the plan in May 2010 to guide development of the transportation system in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties.
