The Round Rock ISD board of trustees discussed the timeline to search for a new superintendent during an April 2 workshop. The board tentatively decided to begin candidate interviews Aug. 2–3.

On March 27, the board selected search firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates of the Educational Consultants and Research Associates Group to assist in finding the next superintendent. Superintendent Jess Chvez announced his retirement Jan. 30, effective Dec. 31.

The board could hear a leadership profile report presentation May 1 to show the findings of the firm's assessment.

The search firm recommended the board decide on several items, including the relationship between the superintendent and board members, which the trustees will discuss at workshops prior to interviewing the candidates.

"I think this is vital and important," trustee Terri Romere said.

The first round of candidate interviews is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 2–3, with the second round set for the following week in August. The search firm recommended interviewing no more than six candidates.

The search firm also discussed the process of the superintendent search, such as including community members, PTAs and Williamson County leadership in the search process.

The firm recommended the new superintendent should start no later than Jan. 1.
