The part of Magnolia that falls within city limits is referred to by residents in a number of different ways. Some call it Old Magnolia, while others say West Magnolia. Some simply refer to it as the City of Magnolia.

In an effort to end the confusion, city officials are looking to come up with a formal name for the city limits. While several suggestions have been thrown around, the city is turning to Magnolia residents for input.

"We want to come up with a name that is a compliment to the area," said Deborah Rose Miller, the city's economic development coordinator. "Instead of just calling it 'city of Magnolia' or 'Magnolia city limits,' we want something that conveys more about our identity."

Among the suggestions that have been made so far are the following:

Magnolia City Plaza

Magnolia Towne Center

Magnolia Market Square

Magnolia Olde Town

The City of Magnolia

Miller said residents with suggestions should email them to her at [email protected]. She is also asking residents to provide their opinions on the names that have already been suggested.

City officials hope to have a name decided on by the March 26 special city council meeting, where a resolution will ideally be included on the agenda to officially name the area. The new name would be incorporated into the city's forthcoming comprehensive plan, the details of which will be presented to the community at a March 28 forum.
