Leander ISD students in grades three through eight performed better overall on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness compared with testers statewide.

The first round of the new standardized test was administered to students in spring 2012. Leander ISD passing rates, released in January, exceeded the state's average in every subject and grade, with the highest discrepancy in eighth-grade social studies.

Preliminary district passing rates for the end-of-course exams given to students in grades nine through 11 were released in July 2012 and showed similar trends.

Texas Education Agency Commissioner Michael Williams said he expects scores will improve with time. In February, the TEA announced it will postpone assigning accountability ratings based on the STAAR exams until the 2013–14 school year.
