Eanes ISD is scheduled to host its inaugural Parent University on Feb. 21 from 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m. The program is geared toward parents of children attending EISD and Lake Travis ISD elementary schools.
Topics for Parent University were compiled by administrators through parent surveys and include "Mean Girls, No More" and "Kids Can't Drive You Crazy, Unless You Give Them the Keys."
In 2011, EISD was awarded a $350,000 national grant from the Department of Education for elementary school counseling services. With the grant, the district hired additional counselors at the elementary school level and funded parent education events such as the upcoming program.
EISD Grant Program Director Shayna Barksdale said 100 participants have already preregistered, and about 200 registrants are expected at the event.
"We are hoping to expand this to the secondary grade level next year," Barksdale said.
Claire Flynn, co-founder of For Kids' Sake, is scheduled to close the program with "Families in Fast Forward! Finding Balance to the Speed of Life!" at 11:25 a.m. For Kids' Sake offers counseling, workshops and therapy services for parents and teachers.
The cost for the Eanes ISD Parent University program is $25. Attendees may register at www.eisdparentu.eventbrite.com. The event will take place at Riverbend Centre, 4214 N. Capital of Texas Hwy. in Austin.
