Texas Humane Heroes, formerly the Humane Society of Williamson County, is set to host a chili cookoff fundraiser Feb. 16. Proceeds from the fourth annual event will benefit the no-kill animal shelters in Leander and Killeen.
From 1–3 p.m., guests can sample chili recipes from competitors and vote on their favorite, and there will also be all-you-can-eat offerings from CJ's Catering. Eran Fehily, director of Texas Humane Heroes community relations and development, called the cookoff a simple yet powerful way to support Texas Humane Heroes' life-saving mission.
"We are so excited about our fourth annual chili cookoff, as this event has always been such a great success and the perfect winter activity to help keep you and family warm," she said. "Who knows, you might also find the new love of your life among the many wonderful animals available for adoption that day."
The nonprofit is asking for $10 donations for adults and $5 donations for children who participate. Prizes will be awarded to the top three chili chefs.
Texas Humane Heroes aims to provide innovative programs and services to eliminate pet homelessness and to improve the lives of pets and people throughout Central Texas. The organization, located at 10930 E. Crystal Falls Parkway, Leander, is funded by donations, grants and fees.
