The flyover project at FM 1488 and FM 149 is moving forward in small steps as the Texas Department of Transportation and Montgomery County continue to acquire right of ways. Construction should begin sometime this summer.
The flyover will extend over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and will allow for better traffic flow.
"It's going to increase mobility and alleviate traffic during key hours, especially with the school exiting and the railroad crossing," said Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Craig Doyal. "It will certainly alleviate congestion, and I think we will see immediate effects."
The project should be completed by 2015, and the added sections of FM 149 and FM 1488 will consist of two 12-foot lanes in each direction with 10-foot shoulders and a 16-foot two-way left-turn lane in the median.
