New trailer lot connects with neighborhood, eyes growth

Dennis White, owner of Fishey Bizness Seafood Co., said his seafood food truck has been well-received by the neighborhoods near W. Hwy. 290 and Hwy. 71.

"I am surprised with how well it's been going," he said.

White introduced some changes in the new year. He added a grill and plans to offer fajitas. He is also closing on Sunday and shifting to a Monday–Saturday schedule.

Fishey Bizness was the first trailer to open in the Oak Hill Food Trailer Haven last fall. Wright Bros. Dairy opened in November.

Owner Jeramie Wright serves gourmet soft-serve ice cream and toppings. He said that on warmer days, customers will walk to his truck from the surrounding neighborhoods.

The draw of ice cream is so strong, he said, that some customers stand out in the cold eating his cones and sundaes.

On Jan. 3, Whole Foods Market opened a food trailer that sells sliders and salads—an encouraging development, White said.

David Burkham, broker associate with Market Maker Realty and Investments, said he hoped to have a new vendor or two by March.

Moontower Saloon

Farther south, the Moontower Saloon hosts two trailers.

GoodFellers is a new trailer operated by the former staff of BonAppeTex.

The trailer's owners said they plan to offer an expanded menu, according to Moontower's website. That One Place serves tacos, nachos and sandwiches.

Local industry group Austin Food Trailer Alliance is working on its social media approach for 2013.

Alliance President Tony Yamanaka said he is working with trailer owners and author/blogger Tiffany Harelik of "Trailer Food Diaries" to popularize a hashtag directory.

A trailer can use an agreed-upon hashtag, such as #newonmenu or #newtrailerontheblock; customers can then search for those hashtags and get the latest news.
