Restaurant takes on new concept

In early September, Backyard Smokehouse opened at the former J.B. Smokehouse location on the corner of Fleur De Lis and Huffmeister Road. The concept features an atmosphere similar to that of the well-known Backyard Grill, but with all new fare and a lot more options.

A new addition to the menu features weekly Friday specials on wild game from roasted stuffed quail to alligator etouffee. The restaurant incorporates a rustic design and offers a full bar with 14 Texas beers.

"The grill is like a family's backyard, [the smokehouse] is like going to the deer lease," McShaffry said.
