A three-story Hampton Inn is expected to open in February near the Y at Oak Hill, according to Bill Karotkin, the hotel's director of operations.

The new Hampton Inn Austin/Oak Hill at 6401 W. Hwy. 290 is currently accepting reservations for dates starting Feb. 27, he said. Located near the Y at Oak Hill, the hotel will feature 106 guest rooms, a large conference room that can accommodate between 120–140 people, and two smaller boardrooms.

Construction on the hotel began in January 2012, Karotkin said.

"We're waiting on some city inspections, but we're hoping [to open] Feb. 1," he said. "We should have been open already, but we had some delays. Apparently the whole city got backlogged because of the Formula One track."

The hotel's owner, R&H Hospitality, saw a need for more hotels in Southwest Austin, Karotkin said.

"There's a lot of corporate business and wedding venues out in this area, and the three other hotels that are in this area have been here at least 10 years, if not longer," he said, adding: "We noticed that a lot of businesses have started to move from downtown out [west]."

Karotkin said Hampton is creating about 25 jobs with the new location.
