  • Data center — The Pflugerville Community Development Corp. announced a deal was in the works to develop a $210 million data center project in Pflugerville. The PCDC offered more than $13 million in incentives to the landowners and developers to secure the project, which city officials believe will help lower property taxes.
  • Finances — The city was able to lower its property tax rate by half a cent and refinanced several existing bonds, saving taxpayers alnost $8 million in interest throughout the life of the bonds.

Top issues for 2013

  • Utilities — The city plans to continue negotiations with SouthWest Water Co. regarding future water rates and service to Pflugerville residents. The city will also work with Manville Water Supply Co. to upgrade its water supply services in Pflugerville.
  • Capital projects — The city transfers extra tax revenue into a general capital reserve fund for one-time purchases relating to capital projects. The city is looking for new projects to fund in 2013. Past projects include refurbishing City Hall, trail upgrades and an electric car charging station.
  • Pflugerville ISD expansion — PISD is considering construction of a new high school in East Pflugerville in the coming years. The expansion of the district will likely require major infrastructure investments from the city on the roads and utilities in the area.
