Local farm sells vegetables and more

Once described as the "best-kept secret in Lakeway," Natural Springs Garden—located near the RR 620 and General Williamson Drive intersection—has big plans for 2013, said Karla Garcia, who runs the farm with her husband.

"We started our annual chili cook-off two years ago, and last year's went over really well," she said. "So this year we're planning on doing a pig roast in late February or early March. Then, maybe in June, we're going to do some sort of outdoor concert or music festival."

Garcia, her husband and the rest of the small staff grow and sell vegetables such as chard, broccoli and cabbage. There is a chicken coop where scores of fowl can roam and lay their eggs, and an aquaponic system that uses fish, worms, gravel and recycled water to create a self-sustained greenhouse fertilization setup.

Natural Springs Garden has 18 vendors for its store and hopes to double in size for 2013, Garcia said.
