Sean Mannix will be the next Cedar Park police chief, city officials said Dec. 21.
Mannix will leave his post as assistant chief at the Austin Police Department, according to a news release issued by the city. He replaces Chief Henry Fluck, whose February resignation takes effect at the end of the year.
"I am excited and honored by the opportunity to lead the fine men and women of the Cedar Park Police Department as we forge partnerships with the city's residents and businesses to keep Cedar Park one of the safest cities in Texas through community-engaged policing," Mannix said in a statement.
His career began in Alameda, Calif., in 1983 as a police officer. Mannix remained there for nine years before accepting a position with the Austin Police Department. Working his way up the ranks, Mannix was named assistant police chief in 2009.
Cedar Park City Manager Brenda Eivens said Mannix stood out in a talented pool of candidates, with more than 76 responses to the job opening, according to the news release.
"His proven leadership and strong credentials in law enforcement demonstrate his commitment to maintaining the high ethical standards and professionalism of our officers," Eivens said in a statement.
Mannix officially takes over duties as chief Jan. 22.
