Austin Toros fans will have the opportunity to hear Sean Elliott, a former San Antonio Spurs forward, speak Dec. 22 at the Cedar Park Center.

Elliott will address fans 45 minutes before the Toros, the 2011–12 NBA Development League champions, tip off against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. A team news release states that Elliott plans to offer inspirational words of educational encouragement and detail how he overcame his personal health struggle.

The 12-year NBA veteran helped lead the Spurs to the franchise's first title in 1999. Shortly after the achievement, Elliott learned he would need a kidney transplant. His older brother, Noel, gave Elliott a kidney.

Eight months later, Elliott returned from surgery to become the first NBA player to return from major organ transplant surgery, according to the release.

The 6-foot, 8-inch Elliott played 11 seasons in San Antonio after being drafted third overall in the 1989 NBA Draft out of the University of Arizona. He retired in 2001 and currently serves as a San Antonio Spurs broadcast commentator.

The speaking event begins at 6:45 p.m., and the game starts at 7:30 p.m.
