Two local businesses are teaming up for charity and offering a chance for one lucky golfer to win $1 million.

The second annual H-E-B Million Dollar Charity ShootOut partners the Leander H-E-B Plus and Brad Schaible Realty in Cedar Park. Proceeds benefit Hill Country Community Ministries, a local nonprofit that provides food and assistance to Williamson and Northwest Travis county residents in need.

"My goal is two-fold—to raise funds to support their mission, and increase public awareness of the need in our community and [the] vital role HCCM plays," said Brad Schaible, Schaible Reality owner and creator of the charity event. "Last year's tournament raised $9,713.57, and we hope to double the proceeds this year."

HCCM could use the help this season, Director Sherry McDonnell said. The charity fulfills thousands of requests for food and other basics every year.

"We are struggling to keep pace with the demand for services, and the funds raised by the tournament give families a much-needed helping hand in their time of crisis," she said.

The event, held Dec. 3, features a golf tournament with several chances to win prizes. Ten golfers have the chance to sink a hole-in-one for a $1 million prize. New to the tournament this year is a helicopter golf ball drop. Up to 1,000 numbered balls are dropped near a flagstick, with each ball purchased for $5, numbered and matched with a corresponding owner's ticket. The owner of the ball that lands closest to the flagstick wins a spring break vacation in Palm Springs, Calif.

The cost to participate in the tournament is $125 per player or $450 for a team of four. Held at Twin Creeks Country Club in Cedar Park, the event includes breakfast and lunch, a replay card and one additional round of golf at each of the Dominion Golf Courses, a swag bag, raffle ticket and entry in both contests.

Gary Anderson, general manager of H-E-B Plus in Leander, said his store is a proud title sponsor and partner in the event.

"We are very familiar with the support provided to our community by HCCM, and we are proud to assist them in furthering their mission and helping our neighbors in need," he said.
