A new Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in Colleyville this morning, taking care of two resident concerns.
Mayor David Kelly said residents have asked for more grocery options and also wanted to see large, empty shopping centers filled.
The store at Colleyville Boulevard and Glade Road is in a spot that has been vacant for many years — since Kroger closed in 2005. Store manager Steve Chapman said the market is a little larger than most such concept stores, at 54,998 square feet.
He said the size will allow it to offer a larger variety of foods than the usual Market Center.
Market Street, less than a mile away at 5605 Colleyville Blvd., has been the largest grocer near the city center since then. It is owned by United Grocers.
