The filing period for candidates for the San Marcos and Buda city councils ended Aug. 20 for the election to be held Nov. 6.
In San Marcos, Mayor Daniel Gierrero faces challenger Thom Prentice, councilman Shane Scott faces challenger Greg Frank for his Place 6 seat and councilman Ryan Thomason faces write-in candidate Melissa Derrick for his Place 5 seat.
In Buda, Mayor Pro Tem Sandra Tenorio is not running for re-election. Her Place 3 seat is being sought by Jose Montoya and Taryn Davis. Incumbent Cathy Chilcote has filed for re-election to her Place 4 seat on the council, and is facing challenger George Haehn.
A special election has been called to fill Dawn Schaeffer's unexpired term for the Place 5 seat. Eileen Atmiller and Jim Corry have filed to run for her place.
Kyle holds its city elections in May. This year's election was canceled after candidates Ray Bryant and Samantha Bellows-LeMense ran unopposed.
Early voting runs Oct. 22–Nov. 2 throughout the county. Registered voters may cast their ballots at any of the county's five main voting locations during early voting.
