Liberty Fest 2012, Leander's annual Fourth of July celebration, will be held at a new location behind the H-E-B Plus complex at U.S. 183 and Old FM 2243 instead of its previous location at Crystal Falls Golf Course.

Megan Pumphrey, City of Leander athletics and recreation programmer, said the H-E-B Plus complex is an overall better facility for the event.

"The H-E-B facility is a safer venue, there will be more parking and a better area for the fireworks display," Pumphrey said. "In previous years, we had shuttle buses because of limited parking, and we know that was hard on some [people]."

Aside from the change in venue, a familiar tone will grace the festival, Pumphrey said. The event will feature food, a live concert by The Emotions, games and bounce houses for children as well as a fireworks display to cap off the evening.

"The only change is that there will be a bigger fireworks show than the past," Pumphrey said.

Fireworks will begin at dusk, or approximately 9:20 p.m., according to program officials.

Liberty Fest 2012 will be presented by H-E-B Plus, Capital Metro, Al Clawson Disposal and the City of Leander beginning at 6 p.m. July 4 and finishing at approximately 10 p.m.

Pumphrey also noted that there will be no alcohol or glass containers allowed inside the event.
