The Pflugerville ISD board of trustees was excited to hear the positive feedback of students enrolled in the district's Extended Day Program.

"The best sign is the kids don't want to leave," said Emily Beaird, PISD director of student services, during the June 21 board of trustees meeting.

Beaird said enrolled students are also showing signs of improved attendance and grades.

"If the kids want to be there, it makes all the difference in the world," trustee Carol Fletcher said.

PISD launched the program last year at all 18 district elementary schools and has already opened enrollment for the upcoming school year. The program provides after-school care for kindergarten through sixth grade students structured around activities and homework assistance until 6:30 p.m. The district charges a $50 enrollment fee and a $215 tuition fee per student for September through May enrollment.

"This is truly an independent program," Superintendent Charles Dupre said. "Everything they do is funded by the program."
