The City of Round Rock authorized $361,850 worth of improvements June 14 to the Kensington Greenbelt, which include demolishing the existing park amenities, constructing a new playground and putting in a 0.6-mile crushed granite trail.

Parks and Recreation Director Rick Atkins said the existing amenities are more than 25 years old at the park, which is located at 1501 Gattis School Road, near the intersection of Gattis School Road and Greenlawn Boulevard.

There is also a park pavilion, park sign, picnic tables, grills and park benches planned for the project. The project is a part of the Parks and Recreation Department's Repair and Replacement Program.

"Some of the older park amenities throughout the city, those have all been ranked and categorized," Atkins said. "This is the time to replace this playground [at Kensington Greenbelt]."

He said the total project will cost about $390,000, and construction is expected to begin in July and be finished by the end of the year.
