According to unofficial results from the Hays County Elections Office, voters have re-elected incumbent Gary Cutler to be the county's sheriff.

Cutler earned 6,111 votes, or 65.1 percent of the total cast in the May 29 primary election. Tommy Ratliff, the former sheriff who was ousted by Cutler in the 2010 election, received 3,281 votes, or 34.9 percent.

Ratliff, who had served as a Democrat in his previous term, chose to challenge Cutler as a Republican in 2012. There were no Democratic challengers for the office.
