At its April 17 session, the Buda City Council approved an agreement between the city and Action Sport Development to begin design of the Jackson Tyler Norris Memorial Skate Park.
In 2010, Hays County Commissioners approved $140,000 in grant funding for the park. With the approved one-to-one match from the city, the proposed budget for the park is $280,000.
The City Council had approved the name of the park in 2011 in memory of Jackson, a 15-year-old student at Jack C. Hays High School who died June 22, 2011.
The 10,000-square-foot concrete skate park will be built on a 0.67-acre site on city-owned property, 480 S. Loop 4, south of downtown.
The proposed work schedule includes a review of the park's design by City Council on June 5, awarding a bid on the contract in late summer and a grand opening in January–February 2013.
