Tim Adams will step aside as Cedar Park Regional Medical Center CEO to pursue a new opportunity, he confirmed on May 2.

While he cannot yet disclose his new employer until a public announcement is made, Adams said he has accepted a senior level position with another Texas-based hospital company. He will be responsible for managing 15 facilities. His final day at CPRMC is May 4.

"This is a really great opportunity," he said. "It's the only reason I would have considered leaving Cedar Park medical center."

The new job will allow Adams to maintain residence in the Austin area, he said. Adams' community involvement goes beyond his work at the hospital, serving as Rotary Club president and chamber board member. In 2011, his efforts earned him the Cedar Park Citizen of the Year award.

"I think it's very important being one of the largest employers in this area to be involved in the community and put a face to the organization," Adams said.

There is still a lot of opportunity for growth at CPRMC, he said. The hospital recently opened its Level II neonatal intensive care unit, and Adams estimates development on the unused fourth floor will begin in the next 18 to 24 months. There is also much room for expansion on the 98-acre property owned by the hospital, he said.

"(CPRMC will) continue to develop this area as medical destination," he said.

Adams has worked in hospitals since he was 16, when he swept floors at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital in Waco. Before coming to Cedar Park, he supervised 18 hospitals as division vice president of the Community Health Systems network. He accepted the role as hospital CEO in January 2010.

He begins his new job on May 21.
