New multifamily units are credited for boosting the number of Cedar Park commercial building permits in recent months.

The city approved 29 commercial projects in the second quarter, up from 17 permits issued during the same time last year, according to numbers announced during the April 26 Cedar Park City Council meeting.

Mark Lewis, Cedar Park director of building inspections, said the increase is typical after a traditionally slow start to the new fiscal year. Much of the boost in commercial building permits can be credited to construction on the Vista Ridge multifamily project, Lewis said.

Despite the uptick in commercial building, Cedar Park did experience a slight decline in residential construction. There were 156 permits issued, down from 175 that same time last year.

Overall, revenue collected from city permits reached its highest point in more than two years, Lewis said. The city collected $366,835 in the second quarter and is more than halfway—62 percent—from this fiscal year's $900,000 projected permit revenue goal.
