The Pflugerville City Council approved the appointment of Daniel Franz as city engineer March 27, selecting the former Cedar Park engineer from a pool of more than 30 applicants.
"I was very happy and surprised to receive this position," Franz said. "It's especially flattering since I know I had some tough competition."
Franz had served as senior engineer for the city of Cedar Park since 2008, where his major responsibilities included handling city capital improvement projects, coordinating all city projects that involved utility entities or the public, designing a citywide overall drainage plan, handling questions from citizens and other varied tasks.
"I even made the coffee in the morning," Franz said.
Prior to 2008, Franz worked in land development for both Austin and Las Vegas, and previously worked for the Arizona Department of Transportation. He earned his bachelor's in civil engineering from the University of Arizona in 2002.
Franz will begin his new position April 23.
