Two candidates are vying for the Place 6 seat on Leander City Council: incumbent David Siebold and newcomer Randy Caldwell.

Siebold has been a Leander councilman for 13 years and served as mayor pro tem for three years. He said if re-elected, he will continue to prepare the city for its next phase of growth.

"Having done this so many times, I plan to continue to bring business, including commercial development, employers and retailers to Leander," he said. "I am seeing more of an opportunity for that with the increase in population."

Siebold said Leander has grown tremendously during his tenure as councilman. He cities securing a reliable water source for the city through the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority, developing the transportation-oriented district and improving Leander's reputation throughout the region as main projects he's worked on during his tenure as councilman.

"In Travis County, Williamson County and with political and business leaders throughout the region, I've been working on issues, especially with transportation. Over time, Leander has become a relevant city in the region, one that comes up with solutions to transportation issues," he said.

Siebold is the city council liaison to the Parks and Recreation Department and serves as on the Leander Public Arts Commission.

His only challenger, Randy Caldwell, moved to Leander about three years ago. He said if elected, he would bring a fresh perspective to City Council with a focus on economic development and drawing in new businesses.

"As a fairly new resident to the community, I can most relate to the different expectations that a new mix of residents brings," Caldwell said. "I'm the kind of person who likes to look at details of what prevents us from getting quality restaurants in the city and do what it takes to bring them in."

Caldwell said working as a railroad safety advocate for the state made him familiar with the inner workings of government. He said he wants to continue to promote the city's long-term goals.

"I enjoy giving back to the community. Being able to help people is my motivation for running for City Council," he said "I'm trustworthy, honest and loyal. I don't have ulterior motives. I just want to give good quality input."

Caldwell lived in Austin prior to moving to Leander. He is the president of the Benbrook Ranch Homeowners Association.
