With filings for local elections closed, it appears as if positions up for election in Round Rock, Hutto and Pflugerville will remain the same for another term.
Only the incumbents for Round Rock City Council, Hutto City Council and Pflugerville ISD board of trustees filed by the 5 p.m. deadline March 5.
Hutto ISD, however, had six candidates file for its board of trustees.
If none of the candidates have challengers and if there are no propositions on a ballot, cities and school districts often cancel elections to save money, as Round Rock did last year.
In fact, if Round Rock cancels its election this year, it will be the third year in a row. Of the 17 seats up for election since 2006 in Round Rock, only three spots have been contested.
Round Rock Councilman Craig Morgan—who participated in the city's last contested election in 2009 when he ran against Councilman John Moman (both are now on the council)—said he thinks it's a positive sign for how people perceive the city is being run.
"Usually when you're running against an incumbent, it's for some reason," Morgan said, adding that there has not been much controversy with the current council.
"I think more than anything, and what I think we all would like to hope, is that we're doing a good job for the city," he said.
Hutto City Secretary Christine Martinez said the City of Hutto would be canceling its election.
Elections, if held, are scheduled for May 12.
